The "Nimda" virus (or "worm") was an early example of a new type of threat to your computer.  Until fairly recently, you were normally safe unless you blundered - for example by opening an infected email attachment.  The latest crop of malicious programs can detect and infiltrate your computer when you're on-line, without you doing anything.  You can read about the Nimda worm in one of these links:
